So last night my dad, sister an I went to a Karate class. Out of the three of us I am the only one with any previous martial arts experience: 3-4 belts in Taekwondo around 8 or 9 y.o., 4 belts in Karate around 13-15 and roughly 12 months of Muay Thai in 2009. Needless to say, I was down for it. Lately I have been EXTREMELY lazy. On my days off, which is four days a week, it is rare for me to be out of bed before 11 (or in bed before 2am). Most days I ‘do’ something, but it’s never really any kind of rigorous activity. So this Karate class was a bit of a wake up call. It was in no was intense. We warmed up with jogging on the spot and stretching. That was followed by 20 half assed push ups that nearly killed me, and 20 crunches that were a much easier. Then we went through basic punch to the chest, and three different blocks. And a kick, which was essentially a groin kick. All in all, I think I would give something like Karate another go in the future. Perhaps once my sleeve is complete I can focus my funds elsewhere. Though with tafe starting and less work it may be delayed for a few years. But I am young!
